A Chinese primary school teacher and a beautician have filed a suit against CNN in New York over remarks they say insulted the Chinese people and are seeking $1.3 billion in compensation — $1 per person in China, a Hong Kong newspaper reported.
The case against the Atlanta-based cable channel, its parent company Turner Broadcasting and Jack Cafferty, the offending commentator, comes after 14 lawyers launched a similar suit in Beijing alleging that Cafferty’s remarks earlier this month violated the dignity and reputation of the Chinese people….
In New York, Liang Shubing, the beautician, and Li Lilan, a Beijing-based elementary school instructor, claimed Cafferty’s words insulted all Chinese people and “intentionally caused mental harm” to the plaintiffs, the Ta Kung Pao newspaper reported on Thursday.
Mental harm?
Please. Talk about being thin skinned in Beijing - isn’t it enough that the Chinese have such a stranglehold on the US economy and financial system (due to greedy traitorous actions by US business and financial concerns)?
Now they want us to say nice things about them? Screw that.
Cafferty was right in the first place - same old goons and thugs they’ve been for 50 years.
And remarkably thin skinned goons and thugs as well.

let’s see where the American economy is at without Wal-Mart. Like people are really going to buckle down and pay $20 for things they normally payed $10 for?
cafferty is extremely arrogant to insult 1.3 billion people on national tv. and now he suffers the consequences. and if you don’t want to end up the same as Cafferty, I’d advise you to stop blogging about this.

Where would the American economy be without Wal-Mart? Well, it is hard to say where the American economy would be without predatory business practices, but I can say that it is quite easy to guess where the Chinese economy would be without Wal-Mart. One third of all of the goods exported from China go to Wal-Mart. Where do you think the Chinese economy would end up if one third of its exports suddenly disappeared?
As for who Cafferty insulted, well, I wouldn’t know. I don’t watch TV. And this issue is not worth the time it would take to find out. I doubt he is suffering very greatly. I think the expression that is appropriate here is, “He’ll be crying all the way to the bank.” There is no such thing as bad publicity.
From what I’ve read about this he didn’t insult the Chinese people, he insulted the Chinese leaders. An entirely different situation. Calling the leaders of China thugs and goons sounds pretty much right on target. One word: Tibet. If you don’t know what I am referring to you have no business making comments on this issue.
Of course, since you are (I’m guessing here) a Chinese descended AMERICAN WOMAN (the capitals are for the genuinely slow) you feel that it is not only your right, but your duty to whine loudly about anything and everything that you can construe as offensive. So you will certainly comment on things about which you have no knowledge or genuine interest in.
Wow, are you going to personally see to it that I get sued for $1.3Bn, too for my comments? I’m so frightened I can hardly stop laughing.
